Volkswagen has once again partnered with luxury sports fashion brand BOGNER to create a stunning tribute to a beloved classic. The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, unveiled at the ID. Meeting in Locarno, Switzerland, pays homage to the legendary Golf Fire and Ice from the 1990s while bringing its iconic design into the all-electric age.

A Striking Exterior That Demands Attention

The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE immediately catches the eye with its exclusive 3-layer paint finish. The Electric Violet pearl effect, specially developed for this unique model, features a dark blue base coat enhanced with glass beads. This creates a mesmerizing color-shifting effect that changes from dark blue to violet or even black depending on the light.

Adding to the car’s sporty appeal is a Flaming Red anodized roof frame strip and 21-inch rims with a glossy blue anodized finish. The sides of the vehicle showcase a geometric FIRE+ICE pattern in transparent matte foiling, while the original FIRE+ICE logo from the 90s adorns the B-pillar and roof edge spoiler.

An Interior That Blends Nostalgia with Innovation

Step inside the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, and you’ll find a cleverly divided interior that embodies the “Fire and Ice” concept. The driver’s side features Flaming Red accents, while the passenger side is characterized by ice blue design elements.

BOGNER’s influence is evident throughout the cabin. The quilted seats mirror the design of current FIRE+ICE down jackets, complete with iconic B-zippers. Open these zippers to reveal the original FIRE+ICE fabric from the 1990s underneath – a delightful nod to the past.

Other unique touches include customized stainless steel pedals with FIRE+ICE logos, laser-engraved patterns on the instrument panel and floor mats, and webbing from FIRE+ICE collection bags behind the front seats.

Powerful Performance Meets Electric Efficiency

The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE isn’t just about looks. It boasts Volkswagen’s most powerful electric motor to date, delivering 240 kW (326 PS) and a maximum torque of 545 Nm. This powerhouse can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 200 km/h.

A 79 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a WLTP range of up to 601 km. Fast-charging capabilities allow the battery to be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 26 minutes.

A Tribute to a 90s Legend

This special edition pays homage to the original Golf Mk2 Fire and Ice, which debuted in 1990. Created in collaboration with fashion designer Willy Bogner, the original model became an unexpected hit, selling 16,700 units – far exceeding the planned 10,000.

Andreas Mindt, Head of Design at Volkswagen, summed up the project: “With the ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE, we are emphasizing how highly emotional our sporty top model is. Our design team had incredible fun reinterpreting the iconic 90s design and thus developing it further.”

The ID.3 GTX FIRE+ICE proves that Volkswagen can successfully blend nostalgia with cutting-edge electric technology, creating a vehicle that’s sure to become a modern classic in its own right.
